​HONOR & DRESS CODE

​Thank you for choosing to be a student of JOY Academy of Southern Nevada: a faith-based, nondiscriminatory school that is open to students of any race, color, nationality, and ethnic origin.

HONOR CODE

As a student at the Academy you are expected to make good choices with how you behave and how you treat others. Following is the expected Honor Code, based on the JOY Articles of Learning:
  1. I will follow God’s example and look to Him in what I say and do.
  2. I will respect everyone, including myself. 
  3. I will work when it is time to work and be engaged in good causes. 
  4. I will listen when it is time to listen and allow others to do the same. 
  5. I will be kind in both words and actions. 
  6. I will not use foul language of any kind.
  7. I will not use or bring to school harmful/illicit* substances or items.
  8. I will use technology wisely and only use it for good.** 

DRESS CODE

  •  Appropriate and tasteful clothing at all times is expected. It covers the shoulders, midriff, and the length is minimally at the fingertip. No clothing should be tight or revealing.
  • Sayings on t-shirts should not be foul or unkind.
  • Shoes should be supportive, sensible and safe for the day’s activities. NO flip-flops. Crocs ONLY on days  you don't want to run around. 
JOY Academy students are expected to uphold these Codes when attending each day or participating in any JOY Academy activity.

​**USE OF TECHNOLOGY: Any student or JOY family member found to be using technology in or out of school, to bully or engage in any conversation, or to send pictures, that makes someone uncomfortable, OR is not kind, respectful, or appropriate will follow the consequences for not following the code. (see below)
IF students have cell phones or access to internet, we expect Parents to monitor its use. 
JOY CELL PHONE POLICY:Students K-8>> NO Cell phones at school. (Parents requesting a waiver, must meet with the principal. HS students have limited use, and only in the HS portable.)

Consequences for not following either Honor or Dress code: 
  • 1st - Conference with staff
  • 2nd - Conference with staff and parent
  • 3rd - Conference with staff, parent, and a 3-day suspension with the option of not returning, should problem reoccur or student refuses to abide by the Code.
  • IF a student intentionally HITS or physically HARMS another student or a staff member it is an automatic 3-day suspension. Depending on the situation and severity, student may possibly get a second chance, otherwise the student will be withdrawn. 

JOY Academy students are expected to uphold these Codes when attending each day or participating in any JOY Academy activity.

I understand that it is my choice to be at JOY Academy. By signing the form I agree to follow the Honor and Dress Code and acknowledge understanding of the consequences for not following either Code.
